Fasteners
Fasteners are components used for joining and fastening different parts and sub-assemblies within structures or equipment. These elements are present in a wide variety of fields, from construction and engineering to automotive, electronics and furniture.
Main types of fasteners:
- Screws are threaded elements that screw two or more components together. They are often used with nuts to create a secure joint.
- Nuts are internally threaded parts, used in conjunction with screws or threaded rods to achieve a secure fit.
- Washers are flat disks placed between the bolt or nut head and the surface of the workpiece. They distribute the clamping force evenly over the surface and protect the workpiece from damage.
- Rivets are used to make permanent joints between two or more parts. They are inserted into a pre-drilled hole, then deformed (by hammering or pressing) to fix the components.
- Threaded rods are bars of metal or other materials, threaded along their entire length, used for fastening or joining components in assemblies that require tighter threads and greater strength.
- Dowels are fasteners used mainly in construction, to fix elements in masonry or concrete. They are inserted into pre-drilled holes and expanded by inserting a screw to provide a firm hold.
- Dowels are used to temporarily or permanently align and assemble two components.
Quality fasteners increase the lifetime of the assembly and give it resistance in extreme conditions (e.g. vibration, humidity, high temperatures).
Safe joints reduce the risk of malfunctions, accidents and failures in critical applications such as construction or industrial equipment.
The correct choice of these components, depending on the specific application, is fundamental to ensure the reliability, safety and efficiency of the final assemblies.
